Tip of the Month -- FEBRUARY 2005 -- Training For Strength & Power from Darryl Nelson (email Darryl) When performing your strength training make sure that
you are really training for strength. Avoid "bodybuilding" methods.
Bodybuilders are only concerned with appearance and not performance. Therefore,
bodybuilding routines are not based on sound principles but rather "muscle
and fiction" theories. Bodybuilding can make athletes slow and reduce
explosive power. The advice to only lift weights you can rep ten times
is complete nonsense. Doing more than 8 reps does very little to improve
strength and power. Developing strength and power is done by performing
6 reps and less.
