Tip of the Month -- OCTOBER 2004-- Boxing

from Kirk Culik (email Kirk)

Sparring

Boxing training has two objectives:
1. To condition
2. To improve your skills as a fighter.

Some exercises help conditioning, others skill. But there is one all important exercise: sparring. There is no substitute for sparring. You must spar regularly to become a competent fighter.

Because the movements of fighting are violent and broken, fighting is the most tiring of human activities. Excellent athletes in prime condition will be exhausted after several minutes of hard sparring. Sparring grooms you to make split second moves instinctively.
