Taking Care of Your Skates

  • It’s important to dry the skate blades with a towel after each skate, otherwise the blades will rust.
  • Walk only on rubber matting. Plastic, wood and cement can dull or ruin the blade’s edges. Hockey guards and blade covers are available to help prevent rust and nicks.
  • Skate blades dull and nick over time. Check the edge of the blade to determine if it is sharp. A skate sharpening lasts different amounts depending on how often they are used, the quality of the blade, ice conditions, and the skill and preference of the skater.
