Tip of the Month -- JUNE 2004 -- Learn To Play
from Amy Grossman (email

What to Wear?
- Dress children in layers -- a hockey jersey
or sweatshirt on top is fine.
- Hockey shorts are good if you already have
them, but sweat pants work well, too. Hockey socks worn over the kneepads
are needed if you use hockey shorts.
- Kneepads should be worn underneath hockey socks
or sweatpants because their slipper surface makes it a challenge to
get up after a fall. (Note: use Velcro or tape to secure kneepads and
prevent them from falling.)
- Ski gloves work well if you don’t have
a pair of hockey gloves. Some children find it easier to grab their
hockey stick with ski gloves since these are not as stiff as leather
hockey gloves.
