Tip of the Month -- MAY 2004 -- Training / Recovery

from Darryl Nelson (email Darryl)

Eating energy rich foods immediately after your event will increase your recovery greatly. After training or competition the body is like a dry sponge, it wants to soak up lots of nutrients to replenish what it has just lost. Timing is very important… the sooner after the event the better. This is where MRE’s (Meal Replacement Powders like Ultra-Met or Met-Rx) are helpful because they can be prepared and consumed very quickly. A good guideline is to consume 100-125 grams of carbohydrate and 40 to 50 grams of protein.

“Winning is a habit. Unfortunately so is losing.”
