Tip of the Month -- APRIL 2004 -- Boxing from Kirk Culik (email Kirk) Metaphysical Boxing (Shut up and hit the bag!) What does a boxing workout consist of? Well, it’s not just jumping in the ring for some type of tough man contest. A boxing workout has a rhythm, a purpose. Goals
are met, an athlete grows, faces fears, sets new goals, fails, regroups.
It’s a metaphor for life, it mirrors life in a compressed time frame.
When a fighter is finally ready and desirous of competition, it creates
a new time frame but the same metaphor of life compressed. Self actualization
becomes increasingly apparent. Finally during the fight, an athlete is
compelled to face himself, no team mates, only your opponent, and ultimately
oneself. |
